Full Title: The Kingdome of China, Newly Augmented by I.S.
Mapmaker: Speed, John.
Publication Info: London, 1626.

Call number: RARE MAP G7820 1626 S67

Notes: Probably from John Speed's atlas, The theatre of the empire of Great Britain.

A detailed description of China is printed on the reverse side.

John Speed's maps are some of the most beautiful ever printed.

The cartouche is shown at the far left.

Above right: one of eight detailed portraits.

Other details include a ship and a sea monster.

The colors of this map are particularly vivid and are stunning at any size. Most of the descriptions on this map are written in English, including a description of the Great Wall of China and a natural asbestos deposit. Like any map, the larger prints show details the best.
