Septentrionalium Terrarum Descriptio (1634)
map 11
Author: Mercator, Gerard
Publication Info: Amsterdam: 1634

Call number: RARE MAP G3270 1634 M4

Notes: This map is a reprint of the 1595 version published in Mercator's Dusseldorf atlas. This map is notable because it is the most erroneous map Mercator produced, including four islands around the north pole and the imaginary island of Frisland. Nonetheless, due to Mercator's reputation, it was copied many times in the following years.
